Pixie never ceases
to be
a source of joy for me

earlier this evening
I gave her a kong
full of peanut butter

she gets so excited
trembling and squeaking
with excitement

and then she licks non stop
till it’s all gone

I know she’s done
when she looks up at me
and very daintily
bleches like a truck driver

tonight
I’ve been sitting on the couch
Pixie has a box of toys
at the foot of the couch
most of them are tiny stuffies
the size of beanie babies
without the beans
unicorns, lions, tigers and bears…

one of her favorite toys
is a rubber ducky
that a friend gave me
it used to be a key chain
but she loves it
cos it’s the smallest
and just fits in her mouth

I get so’s I don’t even look
I toss it
and toss it
and she brings it back to me
every single time

tonight
instead of tv
I’m reading
I’m lounging lengthways
on my couch
and I’m so engrossed in my book
that I’ve been tossing toys
likely for about an hour and a half

she finally starts to squeak again
and I look up
to discover
that my legs are completely surrounded
by some 30 little toys

I’m enveloped
in everything she loves
including a half filled
peanut butter kong.

I can’t figure out
why I waited so long.
