so the nefew is back in the city<\/span>
going to year 2 of uni<\/span><\/p>\n

he made a pretty adult decision<\/span>
to room and board in a family home<\/span>
in the city…<\/span>
all of the family are somehow into music<\/span>
and they are close to the uni so he can ride his bike<\/span>
and all of this is covered by student loans<\/span>
and then he’ll work to supplement<\/span><\/p>\n

really nice in theory<\/span>
but sometime the best laid plans<\/span>
don’t work out<\/span>
and it ain’t assisted by the fact<\/span>
that<\/span>
they are just plain weird people<\/span><\/p>\n

the kid’s student loan didn’t come in on time<\/span>
so here we are the 8th<\/span>
and he’s not been able to pay his rent<\/span><\/p>\n

had he told me<\/span>
I’d have fronted him the money on the first<\/span>
but he didn’t get up the gumption<\/span>
to mention it to me till today<\/span>
and to add insult to injury<\/span>
the kid has the flu<\/span>
bad.<\/span><\/p>\n

so after dinner<\/span>
I jump in the car<\/span>
and drive into the city<\/span>
to write the kid a cheque<\/span><\/p>\n

I get there<\/span>
I write the cheque<\/span>
we have an “aunty kranky” talk<\/span>
about this being the real deal and<\/span>
this is a loan…just like an adult<\/span>
yadda yadda yadda<\/span>
he thanks me profusely<\/span>
and promises to pay me back<\/span>
once we get to his Dad’s on Sunday for Thanksgiving<\/span>
I get back in the car<\/span>
and head home<\/span><\/p>\n

10 min from my door my phone rings<\/span>
it’s the kid<\/span>
apparently the landlord<\/span>
doesn’t like the way I wrote the date<\/span>
on the cheque<\/p>\n

<\/span>I wrote Oct\/8\/9<\/span>
he wants DD\/MM\/YYYY<\/span>
and won’t accept the cheque as payment<\/span>
if it’s not written that way<\/span>

the poor kid is really embarrassed<\/span>
and I turn around<\/span>
and drive back into town<\/span><\/p>\n

I get there<\/span>
he meets me outside<\/span>
and hands me the cheque<\/span>
I rewrite it<\/span>
with the date DD\/MM\/YYYY<\/span>
and he takes it in the house for approval<\/span><\/p>\n

this time I’ve learned my lesson<\/span><\/p>\n

the poor kid comes out and looks like he’s gonna cry<\/span>
this wedge ass won’t accept the cheque<\/span>
cos I do xx\/xx instead of change<\/span>
he wants it to say $.00<\/span><\/p>\n

see now<\/span>
this is where being 54 would come in handy<\/span>
cos if it were up to me<\/span>
I’d tell that flake<\/span>
to take a long hard suck on my d…..<\/span>
well…<\/span>
you get the picture<\/span><\/p>\n

but the poor kid<\/span>
looked like he wanted to cry<\/span>
I just re-wrote the cheque<\/span>
and took it in to the wedge ass myself<\/span>
had said wedge ass even peeped at me<\/span>
there likely would have been an altercation<\/span>
but he choose to accept the cheque<\/span>
so I was then stuck having the obligatory<\/span>
inane conversation<\/span>
about the weather etc<\/span>
with a stranger.<\/span><\/p>\n

a stranger<\/span>
who uses “and such”<\/span>
tacked on to the end of each sentence<\/span>
like punctuation<\/span><\/p>\n

“nice day if it don’t rain and such”<\/span>
yes it is<\/span>
“sorry to have made you drive all this way and such”<\/span>
it’s ok<\/span>
“well the kid’s turned out to be a great boarder and such”
I’m sure he is
“it’s just that his car takes up so much room and such”
well it’s a big car
“too bad he didn’t have a smaller car and such”
you know he’s a student right? it’s not like he bought it
“well…nice meeting you and such”
buh bye…
