so
\nwhen I first moved to BC in April of 98
\nI was sick as a dog
\nmy Crohn’s disease had caused me
\nto lose a very lucrative contract
\nwith a multi national
\nand I had been robbed
\nby a man I thought I loved<\/p>\n
so
\nI had to declare bankruptcy
\nI couldn’t work
\nand I became the blob
\nthat ate my mother’s couch
\nfor many months<\/p>\n
I tried to get work
\nbut I was too sick
\nphysically
\nand
\nemotionally<\/p>\n
it’s not enough that depression
\nruns in my family
\nbut that a side effect of Crohn’s
\nis depression as well<\/p>\n
not having a job
\nhaving allowed myself to be
\nin the position
\nto have been hurt by a man
\nwho turned out to be a liar and a thief
\nlosing my house
\nmy Nissan Pathfinder
\netc etc
\nit all took it’s toll<\/p>\n
so
\nover time I was able
\nto begin to get better
\npart of that was luck of the draw
\nlike landing in the hospital
\nin my small community
\nputting me in touch with a Dr
\nthat has since virtually
\nsaved my life<\/p>\n
over the years
\nthere has been a slow upward crawl
\nof financial, emotional and physical health
\nand in 2008 I was able
\nto lease a car
\nwhich I flipped in 2012
\nand then again in 2016<\/p>\n
a little red car
\nlooked like a ladybug
\nI was so proud of myself
\nfor having got the the stage
\nthat I was advancing
\nto actually being an adult<\/p>\n
In June of 2015 I found myself
\nsick again
\nthis time
\nit was health, poor decisions,
\ngrief over my father’s death
\nAnd an inability to admit
\nI was in the wrong job<\/p>\n
things unraveled
\nand I found myself on medical leave
\noriginally with the intent to
\ngo back to work in late Aug<\/p>\n
in July 2015 I broke my shoulder
\nwhile on holidays with my tribe
\nso an orthopedic surgeon decided
\nno work until October<\/p>\n
In October,
\nwhen I got my medical release
\nfrom the surgeon
\nI was informed by my employer
\nthat I was in fact not going back to work
\nand that because of my complicated
\nhealth issues
\nI should apply for long term disability<\/p>\n
I applied
\nand was refused
\nso in Aug of 2016 my GP
\nalso wrote a return to work note
\nfor my employer<\/p>\n
I ran out of short term sick leave
\nand accommodation leave
\nin Feb of 2015
\nI’ve had no income since then<\/p>\n
I did not return to work at that time
\nand slowly have been repleting my
\nretirement savings
\nuntil they ran out in Sept 2016 <\/p>\n
it isn’t pretty
\nbut the good news is that
\nmy employer has now found me a position
\nthat will start
\nApril 3.<\/p>\n
I was able to
\nwith the help of a team of medical professionals
\nget myself to a point
\nwhere I feel better
\nphysically and for the most part
\nEmotionallty than I have
\nin many many years…<\/p>\n
that’s the good news<\/p>\n
over the course of this mess
\nI’ve been in contact with the company
\nthat sold me the little red car
\nas recently as last Thursday
\nto request payments since Nov
\nbe deferred to the end of my contract
\nand was told it was ok<\/p>\n
Friday morning
\nthe car company issued a warrant
\nfor repo of the little red car
\nI spoke to the bailiff
\nlast night…
\nwho has kindly allowed me until Monday (tomorrow)
\nto clean out the car
\nof my stuff…
\nand get the last run
\nof my meds and groceries
\nprior to him taking
\nthe car back<\/p>\n
I truly have mixed emotions
\nbeing in this position financially
\nhas made me very sad and lost
\nto a great deal
\nover the last few months
\nand I’ve had a hard time not succumbing
\nto a great depression
\nand
\nmy gratitude sometimes runs thin<\/p>\n
but I know that these things
\nthat have happened
\nare my responsibility
\nand although it will beat the hell
\nout of my pride…<\/p>\n
I’m alive
\nand pretty much well
\nso I’ll move on.<\/p>\n
…and damn the torpedoes.<\/p>\n
