when I was a kid
\nmy grandmother had these dishes
\nthat she used daily<\/p>\n

they were called
\nBelle Fiore
\nand they were
\nmade by Simpsons<\/p>\n

when I moved here
\n20 years ago
\nmy life was in shambles
\nand I was ill prepared
\nto deal with anything
\nmy Crohn’s was postal
\nI had no funds
\nno job
\nno life<\/p>\n

as things
\nstarted to get better
\nI started purchasing
\nsingle pieces
\nof Belle Fiore
\nto mark
\ncelebratory moments
\nin my life<\/p>\n

it started with
\none single
\ncream picture<\/p>\n

and today we have
\n\"\"<\/a>
\nand much more
\n\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

this year
\nat the behest
\nand urging
\nof my aunt Marigold
\nand my cousin Roberta<\/p>\n

I have started using
\nthis set of dishes
\nas my everyday
\nseems a waste to have them
\nand not use them<\/p>\n

I have to tell you
\nevery time I reach into the
\nkitchen cupboard
\nI am tickled<\/p>\n

I never once have
\nnot stopped
\nand grinned
\nlike a Cheshire
\nremembering
\nmy youth
\nand my Grandmother<\/p>\n

which always
\nalso brings me
\nto remember
\nmy Mom and Dad
\n(although mom is still here
\nshe’s got dementia…soo…)<\/p>\n

I often giggle
\nand examine the dish pattern
\nbefore putting food on it<\/p>\n

also
\nthere’s something to be said
\nfor longevity
\nin using dishes from the 1940s<\/a><\/p>\n

and an added bonus
\nis that the dishes themselves
\nare not 12 inch corning ware plates
\nbut 8 inch dinner ware
\nwith a 1 inch lip
\nso a full plate
\nleaves me sated
\nbut not stuffed<\/p>\n

they are bright
\nand colourful
\nand make me
\nimmensely happy<\/p>\n
