So tonight I met friends after work for a quick dinner…
\nwe go to a family restaurant known for their burgers.<\/p>\n
I actually eat there pretty regularly
\nbecause they do a divine Cobb salad
\nwhich is big enough and contains enough protein and greens
\nto allow me to have a piece of their cheesecake for desert
\nwithout making my blood sugar sky rocket<\/p>\n
I eat my meal,
\nI have my desert
\nduring which the server
\ndrops off the bill
\nand I get out my debit card…<\/p>\n
and we wait…
\neventually one of the other people working that section
\ncame by with a machine
\nand ran my card
\nat which time I gave the original server
\na 25% tip
\n(cause I remember those days)
\nand this is were it all goes pear shaped….<\/p>\n
my friends leave
\nand I go to the rest room…
\nwhen I come out of the restroom
\nI head for the front door…
\nsaying goodbye to the hostesses
\n(who know me as I said…I’m there pretty regularly)
\nand I head out through the crowded lobby,
\nout the door and head to my car.<\/p>\n
Then next thing I hear is
\n“hey!\u00a0 Do you plan on paying?”
\nI turn around and it’s the first server.
\nI say “excuse me?”
\nkind of hob smacked
\nand she says again
\n“do you plan on paying?<\/p>\n
I say…”I did”
\nand she says “well ya didn’t pay me!<\/p>\n
I almost blew a fuse
\nbut I started with
\n“think very carefully
\nabout what you are going to say next”<\/p>\n
she says “whuuuut?”<\/p>\n
I say again
\n“it would behoove you to think
\nvery carefully
\nabout what you are going to say next?”<\/p>\n
she says “well? do you plan on paying?”<\/p>\n
wrong answer!<\/p>\n
I turn around and walk back into the restaurant
\nand ask one of the hostess’
\nto get the manager<\/p>\n
as the manager walks towards me
\nthe 2nd server comes up and asks
\nthe 1st server what’s up
\nto which the first server says
\n“they tried to skip on the meal
\nbut I caught “her” in the parking lot!”
\nall proud of herself like<\/p>\n
now the manager is standing with us
\nand the 2nd server says
\n“but they were all ready to go
\nand I couldn’t find you
\nso I processed the charges
\nand put the receipts in your drawer.”<\/p>\n
and instead of saying
\nshe’s sorry for the misunderstanding
\nshe says “well how was I to know?
\nI’m not getting stiffed again”<\/p>\n
I says to the manager
\n“did you hear this?
\nhe says yes that as a result of
\nthe misunderstanding
\nhe wants to cover the cost of my meal”<\/p>\n
I said “no thanks…just give me back
\nthe 25% tip I gave her”<\/p>\n
after some kibutzing
\nwhere he tried to cover it
\nshe eventually started to look sheepish
\nand I said “next time you want to embarrass
\na customer in front of the whole restaurant
\nmaybe you’ll think twice”
\ntook my tip money
\nand came home<\/p>\n
I highly doubt she will
\nmanners are bred into people
\nthey aren’t born with them
\nand frankly
\nshe ain’t got none.<\/p>\n
