\nI woke up at 4AM
\nwhen I rolled over
\nin my sleep
\nand something made
\nmy right foot wet<\/p>\n
in my bed<\/p>\n
I says to myself
\nSelf
\nthis is wrong<\/p>\n
so I sat up
\nturned on the light
\nput on my glasses
\nand flipped
\nthe covers back
\nat the bottom
\nof the bed<\/p>\n
some small black animal
\nwho’d been off her feed
\nfor a day er two
\nhad yakked all over
\nthe bottom of the bed<\/p>\n
how one little 3.5lb dog
\ncan yak up that much
\nis beyond me
\nbut there I was
\nat 4 AM
\nstripping the bed
\nshowering
\nremaking the bed<\/p>\n
and trying
\nto get back
\nto sleep<\/p>\n
went to work
\nhad one of those
\ndog chasing my tail
\ndays
\ncouldn’t get a grip on
\none solid thing
\nbut got a myraid
\nof stuff
\nthat I’d been
\nputting off
\ndone
\nso it wasn’t
\na complete
\nwrite off<\/p>\n
I have to
\ngo into the hospital
\nfor tests
\ntomorrow morning
\nthe kind
\nwhere they knock you out
\nand won’t let you
\nbe an adult
\nand drive yourself
\nhome<\/p>\n
one of them
\ngut tests
\nwhere they knock you out
\nand tickle your tonsils
\nand then everything else
\nwith a camera<\/p>\n
so I figured
\nthat after work
\nI should get the
\ngroceries
\nI couldn’t
\nconcentrate on
\nyesterday
\nafter the
\nscreaming and flailing
\nchildren<\/p>\n
but because
\nI’m basically weak
\nI’d best
\neat dinner
\nbefore shopping
\nso I don’t come home
\nwith a case
\nof dark chocolate
\nand no vegetables<\/p>\n
I went to Red Robin
\nand ordered
\na huge
\ncob salad
\nand sat there
\nand read my book
\nand eat my pail
\nof greens<\/p>\n
when I got up to
\npay my bill
\nthe server told me
\nthat the bill
\nhad been covered
\nby someone that
\nhad been sitting by me
\nand Merry Christmas!<\/p>\n
I was gob smacked
\nI love the concept
\nof Random Acts of Kindness
\nalmost as much
\nas I love
\nRandom Acts of Culture<\/p>\n
I got to say
\nthis tickled me
\nWhile I have
\nin the past
\nparticipated
\nin Random Acts
\nof various kinds
\nthis is the first time
\none was
\nperpetrated on me<\/p>\n
I try really hard
\nto live my life
\nfrom a position
\nof kindness
\nsometimes I win
\nand sometimes I don’t
\nI remain but
\na work in progress<\/p>\n
these anonymous people
\ntaught me
\nanother lesson today<\/p>\n
they taught me
\nto accept their kindness
\nwith gratitude
\nand to pay it forward
