I gotta say
\nI’m some kinda glad
\nto see the end
\nof this week<\/p>\n
Tuesday I spent the day
\nwith my father
\nat the Cancer Clinic<\/p>\n
he has Adenocarcinoma
\na cancer of the lung
\nspecifically found in
\nnon smokers
\nand women
\nhe has a 4.5cm tumor
\nand nodes in both lungs<\/p>\n
this cancer
\nis ineligible for radiation
\nand even if he’d do it
\n(and he’s not interested)
\nhe can’t have chemo
\nas he has an enlarged aorta
\nand chemo would likely kill him<\/p>\n
we left the clinic that day
\nwith a ballpark
\ndiagnosis of “about a year”<\/p>\n
he’s very interested in
\nhis quality of life
\nover quantity
\nand I’m intent
\non helping him get that
\nwhether I agree
\nwith his decisions
\nor not<\/p>\n
they also told him
\nthat there is some new
\nwonder drug
\ncalled Gefitinib
\n(I kid you not)
\nthat has had hugely
\npositive results
\nin people with his type
\nof cancer<\/p>\n
however – only 10%
\nof cancer patient
\nhave the right genetic makeup
\nto handle the drug
\nand chances were slim
\nthat’d he’d fit the criteria<\/p>\n
so yesterday
\nI went to see
\nmy new rheumatologist
\nwho is helping me get my pain
\nunder control
\nand whom led me to
\nan appointment
\nwith an endocrinologist
\nwith amazing results<\/p>\n
I was feeling pretty good
\nand then today
\nwe found out
\nthat Dad qualifies
\nfor Gefitinib!!<\/p>\n
I feel kinda like
\nI’m peepin
\nthe light
\nat the end of the tunnel<\/p>\n
I hope and pray
