as many people are
\naround the world…
\ntoday I am remembering
\n9-11<\/p>\n

I have a different take
\non 9-11 than most<\/p>\n

because
\neven though
\nI spent that day
\ntied to my chair
\nin my living room
\nnot even able
\nto get up
\nto get dressed<\/p>\n

although I spent the day
\nshocked and weeping…<\/p>\n

although I was horrified
\nof the mass destruction,
\nthe heinous loss of lives
\nand the ground swell of
\nsympathy\/empathy
\nfrom around the world<\/p>\n

9-11 for me
\nkick started
\nmy lagging life<\/p>\n

catapulted me into action<\/p>\n

9-11 made me take a look
\nat the waiting game
\nI’d been playing
\naround my health
\nand life in general..<\/p>\n

and make a commitment
\nto begin living again<\/p>\n

I’ve told the story often enough
\nof my getting up
\non the 12th of Sept that year
\nand dragging the VOD
\noff to the hairdressers
\nand shaving my head
\nfor the first time<\/p>\n

part of my commitment
\nto getting me back
\nfrom the hole
\nI’d been hiding in<\/p>\n

…it was a way
\nto end the self conscious agony
\nI’d been living in
\nsince my hair
\nhad begun to fall out
\nand my medication
\nand then diet
\nhad caused me to gain
\nalmost 150 more lbs<\/p>\n

it was the first step…<\/p>\n

and it was prompted by
\nthe very clear understanding
\nthat we don’t get a 2nd chance<\/p>\n

that we have no way
\nof knowing
\nwhen we’ll be chosen
\nto leave this web…<\/p>\n

and it was brought about
\nby those planes
\nhitting the 2 towers in Manhattan
\nor the Pentagon<\/p>\n

so here I am
\n10 years after<\/p>\n

there have been
\nhard lessons learned
\nand lots of
\ntrial and error
\nplenty more tears
\ntons of agony
\nand self flagellation
\nplacing trust too easily<\/p>\n

but I’m still
\nas committed to
\nexperiencing each and every
\nday of my life
\nas I was
\non the 12th of Sept<\/p>\n

I’ve learned to lick
\nmy wounds
\nand move on<\/p>\n

and that
\nin some odd way
\nmakes 9-11
\nmy own personal blessing<\/p>\n
