I’m having a bit of a moment
\ntrying to verbalize my feelings today<\/p>\n
Today is election day in Canada
\nit’s a civic duty
\na right, an obligation and an honour
\nto vote
\nto spend the time it takes
\nto make an educated decision
\nabout who you want
\nto run this country<\/p>\n
I walked to the voting station
\nin the rain
\nsinging
\nfull of hope for this world<\/p>\n
last night
\ncame reports
\nthat US military
\nkilled Osama bin Laden<\/p>\n
I have mixed emotions…
\nwhile I despise the atrocities
\nbrought about by this man
\nand his followers
\nI simply can not celebrate
\nhis death<\/p>\n
instead….I choose to celebrate
\nthe fact that we are one step closer
\nto bringing home
\nour men and women in service
\nthere…
\nthose from both sides of our borders…
\nI truly hope
\nthat this does not martyr Bin Laden
\nand that peace will out….
\nSo Mote It Be!<\/p>\n
I’ve been involved in
\nmultiple discussions
\nwith many people
\nover the course of the day
\nabout the death of bin Laden
\nand voting in Canada
\nthe conspiracy theorists
\nare over the moon<\/p>\n
I find that
\nmy overall feeling now
\nis one of sadness<\/p>\n
seems that many many people
\nare dancing in elation
\nthat bin Laden is dead<\/p>\n
and while I believe
\nwhat he did was abhorrent
\nhe was someone’s son,
\nbrother, uncle, father…
\nand that must be sad for them…<\/p>\n
I’ve also heard people
\nbragging
\nthat they “don’t vote”
\nthat voting is a waste of time
\nbecause all the options
\nare corrupt…
\nand that makes me sad too<\/p>\n
I try not to hate…
\nI think it’s more destructive to me
\nthan to the focus of said emotion…<\/p>\n
I must admit though
\nthat I am failing dismally
\nat the not hating
\nwhen it comes to thinking
\nabout those Westboro Baptist Church freaks.<\/p>\n
I guess I just remain but a work in progress….
