there’s a family guy in this city
\nbought a house 5 years ago
\npreforms all due diligence
\nwith the city
\naround the rock face behind the property
\nmakes sure it’s safe
\ncity guarantees it’s geo-technically sound<\/p>\n
so he buys the house
\nand he and his wife and children move in
\nhe insures his home
\ncos he’s the kinda guy
\nthat does all the right things<\/p>\n
and there he and his little family happily lives
\nfor about 5 years
\npaying his mortgage on time
\npaying his insurance
\ndoin it right<\/p>\n
somewhere over the next 5 years
\nthe city allows building
\non the rock cut behind him
\nthe building involves
\ndrilling and dirt and noise
\nbut he chalks it up to progress
\nand keeps paying his mortgage
\nand his insurance<\/p>\n
fast forward to this past weekend
\nhuge rain storm
\nflooding all over the area
\ngreat damage to many households
\nduring which a great honkin chunk
\nof that rock face behind the house
\nslides down and hits the house<\/p>\n
thank goodness no one was hurt
\nhe says
\nit threw his young son across the room
\nbut no one was hurt
\nand the house can be fixed
\nbesides…that’s what insurance if for
\nright?<\/p>\n
but can it?
\nhere we are 4 days later
\nand he’s been told that the house
\nis not livable
\nand that his insurance is non payable
\nbecause of a clause called “un-insurable peril”
\nwhere’s the fairness in that?<\/p>\n
2 weeks before Christmas
\nhere’s the poor man
\nwho’s done everything right
\nfor his family
\nand home
\nand now he and his family
\nis living in a motel
\n2 weeks before Christmas

\nwho likely feels for him
\nbut in truth is trying to stave off
\na law suit
\nwhere’s the fairness in that?<\/p>\n
what a way for your children
\nto discover
\nthat there really is no such thing
\nas Santa Claus.
