this morning I get up <\/strong><\/span>
early <\/strong><\/span>
cos I have to head into the city<\/strong><\/span>
to try to find some eyeglass frames<\/strong><\/span>
remember my post earlier about the <\/strong><\/span>
rectangular frames?<\/strong><\/span>
I’m on a quest…..<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
when I first wake up <\/strong><\/span>
it’s like 7:30 and I wake up <\/strong><\/span>
with this eye dryness thing<\/strong><\/span>
that I have <\/strong><\/span>
in full swing<\/strong><\/span>
so <\/strong><\/span>
I put the eyeball goup (technical term)<\/strong><\/span>
in both eyes and settle down<\/strong><\/span>
to wait the 20 er so minutes it takes<\/strong><\/span>
laying there with my eyes closed<\/strong><\/span>
to alleviate the eye dryness thing<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
I woke up at 9<\/strong><\/span>
but hey<\/strong><\/span>
the eyes are better<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
so I climb into the car and head downtown<\/strong><\/span>
I hate shopping in the city<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
it’s not that they don’t have <\/strong><\/span>
a plethora of wonderful shops<\/strong><\/span>
and big stores<\/strong><\/span>
that have every little thing <\/strong><\/span>
one might want to purchase <\/strong><\/span>
whilst in the big city<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
no<\/strong><\/span>
my issue is parking<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
I’m not legally disabled<\/strong><\/span>
but I do suffer from a fair amount of <\/strong><\/span>
arthritic pain<\/strong><\/span>
in various joints etc<\/strong><\/span>
which makes me reluctant to park in a parkade<\/strong><\/span>
cos they are never near enough to the stores I need to go to<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
I am headed to 3 different eyeglass shops<\/strong><\/span>
that are house over a 6 city block radius<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
I get to the first one at 10<\/strong><\/span>
and it’s closed till 11<\/strong><\/span>
great…<\/strong><\/span>
I just stuck two dollars in the meter <\/strong><\/span>
for 25 min parking<\/strong><\/span>
and now I’m gonna have to leave and come back<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
kitty corner to where I’m parked <\/strong><\/span>
is a well know coffee shop<\/strong><\/span>
so I walk across 2 portions of the intersection<\/strong><\/span>
and order myself a small coffee<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
just a coffee<\/strong><\/span>
not one o them<\/strong><\/span>
chai grande half caf low fat sweet no froth <\/strong><\/span>
thingamadoies<\/strong><\/span>
just a fuckin coffee<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
there’s no one else in the shop<\/strong><\/span>
and it still takes this pinhead behind the counter<\/strong><\/span>
10 min to come up with one single<\/strong><\/span>
cup of coffee<\/strong><\/span>
and then when he does give it to me<\/strong><\/span>
it’s the wrong size <\/strong><\/span>
so he wants me to pay more<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
ah no<\/strong><\/span>
just gimme the size I ordered<\/strong><\/span>
and don’t take all day…<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I end up with small coffee that was heated by <\/strong><\/span>
nuclear reactor in the basement<\/strong><\/span>
(and with my kinda luck<\/strong><\/span>
he spat in!)
<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
I walk back to the car<\/strong><\/span>
pull out and drive the 6 blocks to the other shop<\/strong><\/span>
recommended to me by several colleagues<\/strong><\/span>
put another two dollars in the meter<\/strong><\/span>
and go in the shop<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
ya<\/strong><\/span>
nuttin but rectangles<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
so I get back in the car<\/strong><\/span>
and drive the 4 blocks to the 3rd shop<\/strong><\/span>
put another two dollars in the meter<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

and drive the 3blocks to the 1st shop
it’s 10:55<\/strong><\/span>
I’ve been in 2 shops and a dysfunctional coffee shop<\/strong><\/span>
but at least the coffee is cool enough to sip now<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
there isn’t another car on the street<\/strong><\/span>
and I’m sitting in a parking spot<\/strong><\/span>
in the middle of the block<\/strong><\/span>
in front of the eyeglass shop<\/strong><\/span>
with the car running<\/strong><\/span>
I have just put the car in park <\/strong><\/span>
I pick up my coffee cup and get it half way to my face<\/strong><\/span>
when there’s a knock at my window<\/strong><\/span>
startled <\/strong><\/span>
I whip about<\/strong><\/span>
lips still pursed <\/strong><\/span>
about to sip<\/strong><\/span>
and there’s a parkin meter guy<\/strong><\/span>
standing at the car window<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
I open the door<\/strong><\/span>
cos the car window’s in the VOD mobile<\/strong><\/span>
don’t go down anymore<\/strong><\/span>
and this man<\/strong><\/span>
dressed like a canary<\/strong><\/span>
says<\/strong><\/span>
“ya gotta pay to park”<\/strong><\/span>
I say <\/strong><\/span>
“Ya…I’m just parking”<\/strong><\/span>
he says<\/strong><\/span>
“no..ya gotta pay to park ya can’t just sit here”<\/strong><\/span>
I say<\/strong><\/span>
“I have every intention of paying<\/strong><\/span>
as soon as I get out of the car”<\/strong><\/span>
he says<\/strong><\/span>
“ya have to pay….ya can’t just sit here”<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
“WHAT?<\/strong><\/span>
AM I SPEAKING A FOREIGN FUCKING LANGUAGE?<\/strong><\/span>
I.will.pay<\/strong><\/span>
as.soon.as.I.turn.my.car.off.and.get.out!”<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
all of this takes place with the door open<\/strong><\/span>
and my cup half way to my lips<\/strong><\/span>
as I turn to put the yet untasted coffee down<\/strong><\/span>
and reach towards the ignition to turn off the car<\/strong><\/span>
the idiot bangs on my window<\/strong><\/span>
with his trusty foot long flashlight<\/span><\/strong>
<\/strong><\/span>
this time my head whips around<\/strong><\/span>
bearing a slight resemblance to Linda Blair in the Exorcist…<\/strong><\/span>
I swing open the door and he has to jump back into the street<\/strong><\/span>
lucky for him there’s no traffic<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT?”<\/strong><\/span>
I roar at him<\/strong><\/span>
“you gotta pay” he hollers back with suicidal deliberation<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
“you need to take your fucking medication”<\/strong><\/span>
I says to him…<\/strong><\/span>
I shut the car off<\/strong><\/span>
I get out<\/strong><\/span>
slam the door<\/strong><\/span>
walk to the meter<\/strong><\/span>
and guess what…<\/strong><\/span>
this time I have to pay 2 dollars yet again!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

he stomps off down the street<\/strong><\/span>
like some vindicated nazi<\/strong><\/span>
and I go into the last eyeglass shop<\/strong><\/span>
to find<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
you guessed it<\/strong><\/span>
rectangular frames!<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
but here’s the thing<\/strong><\/span>
this city spends a great deal of time and money<\/strong><\/span>
be-moaning how no one shops downtown…<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
they have committees and boards <\/strong><\/span>
and research grants <\/strong><\/span>
and meetings<\/strong><\/span>
they wax forth ad infinitum <\/strong><\/span>
about how it’s all because of the homeless population<\/strong><\/span>
they spend weeks and months and years vilifying the homeless<\/strong><\/span>
they are all junkies and thieves and crack ho’s and nutcases….<\/strong><\/span>
they do little or nothing to rectify their lives <\/strong><\/span>
or health….<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
the local politicians<\/strong><\/span>
they talk and talk and talk…<\/strong><\/span>
but what I get<\/strong><\/span>
is that over the course of an hour<\/strong><\/span>
I paid $8.00 for parking spots that I didn’t actually get to use <\/strong><\/span>
for more than 10 min total<\/strong><\/span>
and got I got full on abused and harassed <\/strong><\/span>
by some son of a bitch parking nazi<\/strong><\/span>
dressed like a fucking canary<\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/span>
annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd <\/strong><\/span>
just to add insult to injury…<\/strong><\/span>
