somewhere along the line<\/span>
I think I stopped being a girl<\/span>
or a woman<\/span><\/p>\n

and just became me<\/span><\/p>\n

I stopped wearing makeup <\/span>
when my eyelids started to sag<\/span>
like (unfortunately for me)<\/span>
both my parents<\/span><\/p>\n

not to mention the <\/span>
Zippy the Clown incident<\/a>
of 2004<\/span><\/p>\n

I stopped wearing dresses<\/span>
pretty much<\/span>
when I stopped wearing <\/span>
pantyhose<\/span>
and no longer worked <\/span>
for a multinational<\/span><\/p>\n

I stopped worrying <\/span>
about the way I looked <\/span>
when I started shaving my head<\/span>
all those years ago<\/span><\/p>\n

seems that I stopped <\/span>
anything that remotely resembled <\/span>
a beauty regime then too<\/span><\/p>\n

I stopped changing my earrings daily<\/span>
I stopped painting my nails
I stopped wearing most of my jewelry
<\/span>I wear jeans and boots
sneakers and men’s shirts<\/p>\n

I stopped getting my hair done<\/span>
when I realized that my alopecia<\/span>
was such that I no longer had to <\/span>
shave my legs…I actually rejoiced <\/span><\/p>\n

I stopped caring <\/span>
about the fact that <\/span>
I can see my waist<\/span>
sticking out past my chest<\/span>
when it became obvious to me<\/span>
that my diet around<\/span>
having Crohn’s Disease<\/span>
was gonna make it stick out<\/span>
way past my chest…
and at that time
<\/span>I made a conscious choice<\/span>
to get better from the Crohn’s<\/span>
even if it cost me <\/span>
my health in other areas…
I’d work on those when I needed to
and I am…<\/p>\n

and
somewhere along the line
<\/span>I found me..<\/p>\n

<\/span>I shaved my head<\/span>
had a hysterectomy
which negated
anything that resembled
a sex drive
<\/span>and set about on my new life…<\/span>
single and new<\/span><\/p>\n

but I lost part of me too<\/span>
and <\/span>
sometimes <\/span>
I miss those parts<\/p>\n

I’m still attracted to
pretty things
but don’t buy them anymore
so I guess
somewhere along the line
I stopped
being a girl….<\/p>\n

but I still can spend hours
perusing websites
of the kind of girlie things
I used to buy
beautiful charm bracelets
corsets and skirts
uplift bras and off shoulder blouses
high heeled shoes and boy cut knickers<\/p>\n

so maybe there still is
a girl in there somewhere…
but she’s 55 now
and thinks that maybe
she needs to be less frivolous
and more real…
