I moved to BC<\/span>
to live with my mother<\/span>
(the VOD)<\/span>
whilst recouping from <\/span>
a tragic and horrific<\/span>
breakup<\/span>
and dealing with<\/span>
a very aggressive occurrence<\/span>
of Crohn’s Disease<\/span><\/p>\n

I spent virtually the first year <\/span>
I was here<\/span>
being the blob that ate my mother’s couch<\/span>
when I wasn’t in the hospital<\/span><\/p>\n

I was unable to work<\/span>
and the VOD cared for me<\/span><\/p>\n

it does something to one’s ego<\/span>
to go from being a contributing adult<\/span>
back to being a kid<\/span>
that needs their momma to help them<\/span><\/p>\n

thus began the ride of the last 12+ years<\/span>
as I got better<\/span>
and the VOD got worse<\/span><\/p>\n

we lived <\/span>
side by side<\/span>
in 2 apartments<\/span>
in the end<\/span>
I’m far from better<\/span>
and the VOD is far from worse<\/span>
but we survive…<\/span><\/p>\n

In Nov the VOD<\/span>
moved into assisted living<\/span>
at the behest of the bother<\/span>
aka “the Golden Boy”<\/span><\/p>\n

this week<\/span>
she moves out of assisted living<\/span>
and up the Island<\/span>
to live with my bother<\/span>
and his adult children<\/span><\/p>\n

while I know <\/span>
that in the end <\/span>
this move<\/span>
is the best for both of us<\/span>
I can’t help but be struck<\/span>
by this feeling of loss<\/span>
at the idea that I will now<\/span>
have to drive 3 hours<\/span>
to see a member <\/span>
of my immediate family<\/span><\/p>\n

I have mixed emotions<\/span>
because I know I am embarking on<\/span>
the next chapter of my life…<\/span>
so there is trepidation<\/span>
resignation and excitement<\/span><\/p>\n

my blister<\/span>
who still lives back east<\/span>
compounds my resistance<\/span>
to the change<\/span>
by sending me the following email…<\/span><\/p>\n

“welcome to the orphanage”<\/span><\/p>\n

it made me realize<\/span>
that I’m gonna miss the VOD<\/span>
but I’m looking forward <\/span>
to what my life will have to offer<\/span>
