so last night <\/span>
I attended a birthday celebration <\/span>
for my friend <\/span>Cinderella<\/a>
a few friends getting together for dinner<\/span>
most of whom I didn’t know<\/span>
but I’d not seen Cinderella in <\/span>
“like forever”<\/span>
so I made a commitment to go<\/span><\/p>\n

and ya’ll know how I am<\/span>
about integrity<\/span>
I gave my word<\/span>
and no matter how much<\/span>
I detest <\/span>
going into town<\/span>
or getting off the couch <\/span>
when I have not 1, not 2 but 5 <\/span>
good library books <\/span>
just freshly picked up<\/span>
or putting my pants on<\/span>
and going to a restaurant<\/span>
and explaining my food situation<\/span>
I went<\/span><\/p>\n

the dinner was to be held<\/span>
at Cafe Mexico<\/a><\/span>
and I’ve eaten there before<\/span>
albeit a year er so ago<\/span>
so I perused the menu online<\/span>
to make sure that I could eat…<\/span>
given my huge basket<\/span>
of strange dietary needs<\/span><\/p>\n

I was pleased that <\/span>
I was able to find<\/span>
several opportunities<\/span>
on the menu.<\/span><\/p>\n

so I drive downtown<\/span>
arrive about 15 min early<\/span>
as is my wont<\/span>
and drive around for 20 min<\/span>
looking for a parking spot<\/span><\/p>\n

get to the restaurant<\/span>
and run into a couple of people<\/span>
that I worked with at the call center<\/span>
not close friends<\/span>
but people I’ve not seen<\/span>
face to face<\/span>
in 4 years<\/span>
which is nice<\/span><\/p>\n

fast forward<\/span>
and the birthday girl arrives<\/span>
with her bestest childhood friend <\/span>The Singer<\/a><\/p>\n

as karma will sometimes have it<\/span>
I end up sitting across from The Singer<\/span>
and eventually her husband<\/span>
who I oughta know <\/span>
cos he works at the<\/span> local dealership<\/a><\/p>\n

lots of talking ensued<\/span>
and the end result <\/span>
was extra nice<\/span>
we had some really good laughs<\/span>
told each other some really good stories<\/span>
and at the end of the evening<\/span>
Cinderella, the Singer and the Husband and I<\/span>
had a rousing conversation after everyone else left<\/span>
about the demon <\/span>FaceBook<\/a>
it was much fun<\/span>
and I was still home<\/span>
before I turned into a punkin!<\/span><\/p>\n

but all this is not what make me wonder…<\/span><\/p>\n

what makes me wonder is this:<\/span>
when it came time to order dinner<\/span>
the lovely little server<\/span>
got farklempt <\/span>
when I explained the pepper allergy<\/span>
and once she took our orders<\/span>
and went into the kitchen<\/span>
to advise the “chefs” (and I use that term loosely)<\/span>
of my allergy…<\/span><\/p>\n

they refused to feed me<\/span><\/p>\n

she said “they said they throw peppers<\/span>
and pepper flakes all over back there<\/span>
so they can’t guarantee that there <\/span>
won’t be cross contamination”<\/span><\/p>\n

so whilst my friends and acquaintances ate<\/span>
I didn’t<\/span>
Cinderella felt bad<\/span>
and I felt bad for making her feel bad<\/span><\/p>\n

anyone that knows me <\/span>
knows that I’ve gotten pretty<\/span>
adept at managing <\/span>
around my dietary needs<\/span>
cos I have a whole basket of them<\/span><\/p>\n

but really?<\/span><\/p>\n

doesn’t it make you wonder<\/span>
what kind of work space<\/span>
a restaurant has<\/span>
that can’t say they won’t\/can’t
cross contaminate you?<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve eaten in restaurants <\/span>
all over this city<\/span>
and never ever been told <\/span>
that they’d refuse<\/span>
to even try <\/span><\/p>\n

How is it that a place <\/span>
like the <\/span>Noodle Box<\/a>
can feed me <\/span>
without hurting me<\/span>
and prides themselves<\/span>
on being able to do that<\/span>
but Cafe Mexico<\/span>
wasn’t interested in trying?<\/span><\/p>\n

Needless to say<\/span>
Cafe Mexico <\/a>is off the dining list<\/span>
going forward<\/span><\/p>\n

it was still a great night<\/span>
I saw Cinderella <\/span>
and made a couple o new pals<\/span>
in spite of the negative <\/span>
feelings about the restaurant.<\/p>\n
