what the hell is it
about life<\/span>
that allows you
these little teases<\/span>
about things getting better<\/span>
and then kicks ya
in the freakin teeth?<\/span><\/p>\n

don’t get me wrong<\/span>
there’s lots of stuff
in my life <\/span>
that is very good<\/span>
and I’m not complaining
about <\/span> my life in general…<\/span> <\/p>\n

but periodically <\/span>
I get frustrated
by<\/span> my perceptions of fairness<\/span> <\/p>\n

I have this wee dog<\/span>
who is truly a light
in my life<\/span>
but because she’s so small<\/span>
it’s gonna cost me big bucks <\/span>
to have her spayed<\/span>
but I’m gonna do it<\/span>
cos I’m committed to her health<\/span> <\/p>\n

yesterday<\/span> the VOD surprises me <\/span>
with a check
for the full amount<\/span>
for the spaying<\/span>
How Cool Is That?<\/span> <\/p>\n

so I went to bed last night<\/span>
feeling rather optimistic<\/span>
about the state of my life<\/span> <\/p>\n

I wake up at 4 AM<\/span>
<\/span>my eyes are in full flare
<\/span>(I have an eye disease<\/span>
called Map Dot Fingerprint Dystrophy)<\/span>
I start socking the medicine
to them at 4<\/span>
and by socking it in every 15 min <\/span>
between 4 and 8
I make it to work by 9<\/span> <\/p>\n

I call the opthamalogical surgeon’s office<\/span>
to find out about the pending eye surgery<\/span>
(said eye surgery is the same one
people<\/span> get to stop wearing glasses)<\/span> <\/p>\n

I talk to his MOA<\/span>
she says that I have to find out
who’ll pay for it<\/span>
before it can be booked<\/span> <\/p>\n

I call our health plan from work<\/span>
they don’t cover it<\/span>
cos they consider it cosmetic<\/span>
I tell them it isn’t cosmetic<\/span>
and I don’t care
if I have to wear glasses<\/span>
till the day I die<\/span>
I just want the pain to stop<\/span> <\/p>\n

they reiterate
“it’s considered cosmetic<\/span>
and not covered”<\/span> <\/p>\n

so I call our provincial health office<\/span>
wait on hold for a full hour<\/span>
and get to speak to a woman<\/span>
who says they consider it cosmetic<\/span>
and therefore won’t cover it<\/span> <\/p>\n

I tell them it isn’t cosmetic<\/span>
and I don’t care
if I have to wear glasses<\/span>
till the day I die<\/span>
I just want the pain to stop<\/span> <\/p>\n

she reiterates
“it’s considered cosmetic<\/span>
and not covered”<\/span> <\/p>\n

so I get off the phone <\/span>
and make the mistake <\/span>
of looking the surgery up<\/span>
on line<\/span>
$1000.00 to $1500.00 per peeper<\/span> <\/p>\n

I’m going to have to <\/span>
take out a personal loan<\/span>
to get my eye’s fixed<\/span>
at a time when
I’m as <\/span> cash strapped <\/span>
as I’ve ever been in my life.<\/span> <\/p>\n

what the hell
was I thinking<\/span>
getting excited
about the prospect<\/span>
of feeling better?<\/span><\/p>\n
