“there are no strangers here….<\/span>
just friends we’ve yet to meet”<\/span><\/p>\n

nice sentiment eh?<\/span>
all kinda warm and snugly <\/span>
and airy fairy….<\/span><\/p>\n

well…. it’s bullshit!<\/span><\/p>\n

if I’ve learned anything over the last couple of years<\/span>
it’s that friends don’t grow on trees<\/span>
acquaintances do though<\/span>
and just because someone says they are your friend<\/span>
doesn’t mean that you can rely on them<\/span>
to be in your corner when the chips are down<\/span><\/p>\n

what constitutes a friend?<\/span><\/p>\n

Someone of good moral standards…
Someone who knows the difference between
right and wrong
and strives to spend as much of their life on the right side
as humanly possible…instead of paying lip service
to the very idea…<\/p>\n

<\/span>Someone who understands <\/span>
that there is no grey area <\/span>
around lying<\/span>
(and yes…not telling the whole truth <\/span>
is still a lie…commonly called a sin of omission)<\/span>
any more than there is around<\/span>
stealing, <\/span>
being disrespectful,<\/span>
mean spirited<\/span>
or cruel.<\/p>\n

Someone who not only talks the talk
but walks the walk…full time.
<\/span>
Someone who makes a commitment to you<\/span>
and then stands by it – even if it costs them<\/p>\n

<\/span>Someone who doesn’t decide to make you<\/span>
bear the brunt of the burden <\/span>
when they make a mistake<\/p>\n

<\/span>Someone who does things for you<\/span>
not to just make themselves look better
<\/span>but just cos they want to make you happy<\/p>\n

<\/span>Someone who doesn’t re-write history<\/span>
to make themselves feel better instead of
stepping up and taking the heat when
they’ve caused it.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Someone who doesn’t try to manipulate you <\/span>
or those around you<\/p>\n

<\/span>Someone who doesn’t think kindness is something<\/span>
you put on toast only to be pulled out and served<\/span>
when they’d best profit from it.<\/p>\n

Someone who doesn’t sneak in here
in a clandestine manner
thinking I’ll never know
they still read my blog….
<\/span>
A friend, accepts you<\/span>
and supports you<\/span>
A friend is kind, and loving<\/span>
respectful and caring<\/span>
and laughs with you not at you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Strangers are not friends<\/span>
as a matter of fact<\/span>
most acquaintances aren’t either<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>Trust used to come easy to me
but I’ve learned that lesson too<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>and figuring all this out <\/span>
makes life so much more<\/span>
drama free.<\/span><\/p>\n
