once upon a time<\/span>
I served a Canadian MC’ing event<\/span>
called the Ride for Sight<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

it was an annual fundraiser for<\/span>
the Foundation Fighting Blindness<\/a><\/span>
Canada<\/span><\/a>
I was the BC Provincial Chairperson<\/span><\/p>\n

in that capacity<\/span>
as a fundraiser for the event<\/span>
we held (over the 4 years I was chair)<\/span>
several charity BBQ’s<\/span>
in conjunction with M & M Meats<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

the first year we held the BBQ’s<\/span>
I had assistance from the local SCRC<\/a> chapter<\/span>
of which I later joined, became an officer, served<\/span>
and left<\/span><\/p>\n

at the first BBQ held here in Victoria<\/span>
I had occassion to meet an elderly woman<\/span>
named Daisy<\/span><\/p>\n

Daisy had very bad arthritis<\/span>
and came out to tell me<\/span>
that she’d not sat on an MC in some<\/span>
70 years<\/span><\/p>\n

“why” I asked<\/span><\/p>\n

“well” she said<\/span>
“once upon a time<\/span>
a fellow took me for a ride<\/span>
on one of them there<\/span>
Harley Davidsons”<\/span><\/p>\n

she paused and winked<\/span><\/p>\n

“I thought he was quite a<\/span>
nice fellow but my dad<\/span>
would have torn a strip offa me<\/span>
if he’d have found out”<\/span><\/p>\n

“so why didn’t you go again”<\/span>
I asked<\/span><\/p>\n

“well he took me miles and miles<\/span>
out into the country on this old dirt road<\/span>
and then he just stopped<\/span>
and he turned around and told me<\/span>
I’d have to kiss him if I wanted a ride home”<\/span><\/p>\n

“oh my” I said, “what did you do Daisy”<\/span><\/p>\n

“why I slapped him and walked nigh<\/span>
onto 6 miles home” came her reply<\/span><\/p>\n

I asked if she wanted to sit on the Pickle<\/span>
and she allowed as she’d like to try<\/span>
so with a little wrangling her<\/span>
grand daughter and I<\/span>
got her in the driver’s seat”<\/span><\/p>\n
