I watched a PBS program tonight called<\/span>
“Great Performances” <\/span>
it was about the Broadway musical play titled<\/span>
“<\/span>In the Heights – Chasing Broadway Dreams<\/a>“<\/span><\/p>\n

it’s the wonderful story of a fellow<\/span>
who dared to dream<\/span>
and wrote a play<\/span>
with himself as one of the leads<\/span>
and writing most of the songs…<\/span><\/p>\n

seven years later<\/span>
with a team of virtually unknown<\/span>
actors, singers, dancers and performers<\/span>
set designers, choreographers and investors<\/span>
they mounted the show off Broadway<\/span>
which lead to <\/span>
eventually opening on Broadway<\/span>
in spring 2008<\/span><\/p>\n

and going on to win five Tony Awards<\/span>
including Best New Musical<\/span><\/p>\n

it’s a story about Washington Heights<\/span>
a barrio suburb of Manhattan in New York City<\/span>
where there are a huge number of mixed racial<\/span>
2ND generation “in between” kids grew up<\/span><\/p>\n

people not Latino enough for the Latins<\/span>
Asian enough for the Asians<\/span>
or black enough for the blacks<\/span>
all those kids that grew up<\/span>
being punished and feeling lost<\/span>
for decisions made by their parents<\/span>
prior to their entry into the world<\/span>
and the repercussions of their parents <\/span>
reaching or not reaching their dreams….<\/span><\/p>\n

it moved me<\/span>
because it made me wonder….<\/span><\/p>\n

what happened to dreams?<\/span><\/p>\n

what happened to people daring to <\/span>
reach for the stars?<\/span><\/p>\n

how did our lives get to the point<\/span>
where the mundane of our day to day living<\/span>
outshines<\/span>
the brightness of our dreams?<\/span><\/p>\n

how did so many people’s big dream<\/span>
become <\/span>
easy money?<\/span>
win the lotto?<\/span>
houses with 8 bathrooms?<\/span>
and tubs the size of a living room?<\/span>
why is it that we seem to need <\/span>
so much more to make us happy<\/span>
than reaching our childhood dreams?<\/span><\/p>\n

and really….<\/span>
when did we stop working<\/span>
to make our dreams a reality?<\/span>
was it conscious?<\/span>
or has it just slipped away<\/span>
due to a general apathy?<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>there’s a great audio\/video line<\/span>
at the very beginning and end<\/span>
of the movie “Pretty Lady”<\/span>
it comes from a Rastafarian roller skater<\/span>
“What’s Your Dream?”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/param><\/param><\/param><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n

so here’s what I want to know….<\/span><\/p>\n

what’s your secret dream?<\/span>
what’s the one thing you’ve dreamt about<\/span>
since you were a child<\/span>
