every human being<\/span>
grows up <\/span>
with a set of ethics <\/span>
and morals<\/span>
that speak to the very fibre <\/span>
of their being…<\/span><\/p>\n

these would the be the <\/span>
rules and regulations <\/span>
by which one runs their life<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

most of us got the basics<\/span>
from our families…<\/span>
the parental units…<\/span>
and their parents…<\/span>
our spiritual leaders…<\/span>
clergymen and women…<\/span>
our educators…teachers…<\/span>
counselors and peers<\/span><\/p>\n

and then there’s the laws of the land<\/span>
that are loosely based on <\/span>
the basic ethical and moral<\/span>
tenets of mankind….<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

as we grow up<\/span>
if we are feeling <\/span>
and thinking human beings<\/span>
our “rules and regulations”<\/span>
get examined more and more closely<\/span>
on a regular basis<\/span><\/p>\n

and we make decisions <\/span>
as to which one’s will remain <\/span>
important to us<\/span>
and which ones will not<\/span><\/p>\n

over the years <\/span>
some will change the basics…<\/span>
<\/span>
sometimes it’s done to fill <\/span>
a perceived void in one’s life<\/span><\/p>\n

and sometimes it’s done to justify <\/span>
things that that may be causing us<\/span>
a crisis of conscience<\/span><\/p>\n

sometimes we re-evaluate <\/span>
what we’ve been taught<\/span>
to tighten the concepts<\/span>
over what we learned <\/span><\/span>
at the knee <\/span>
of those that have gone on<\/span>
before us…<\/span><\/p>\n

as adults<\/span>
we make educated decisions<\/span>
hopefully based on fulfilling<\/span>
the needs of our morals and ethics<\/span><\/p>\n

I say all this <\/span>
so that I may also say…..<\/span><\/p>\n

As an adult<\/span>
I do not expect anyone <\/span><\/span>
to follow my personal path<\/span>
and by the same token <\/span>
no one should think <\/span>
that I will compromise<\/span>
what I believe<\/span>
for the good of the “all”<\/span>
(I did that once upon a time…<\/span>
and the outcome was abhorrent to me)<\/span><\/p>\n

My basic belief patterns<\/span>
have evolved out of all of the <\/span>
above suggested processes<\/span>
and out of years of research and experience<\/span>
some of which taught me lessons <\/span><\/span>
the hard way<\/span>
harder than most have to experience<\/span><\/p>\n

Out of all of this <\/span>
has evolved <\/span>
a steadfast belief <\/span>
for me<\/span>
in the tenets <\/span>
of the <\/span>Wiccan Rede<\/a><\/p>\n

“Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill,
An it harm none do what ye will.<\/span>“<\/span><\/p>\n

I strive to never<\/span><\/span>
intentionally harm anyone<\/span>
I am not always successful<\/span>
but I strive<\/span><\/p>\n

Should it come to pass<\/span>
that I harm someone<\/span>
I do my personal best <\/span>
to set things right<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I own up to what I did<\/span>
and I apologize <\/span><\/p>\n

and make whatever restitution <\/span>
I can<\/span>
wherever possible<\/span><\/p>\n

and then <\/span>
when I am alone<\/span>
I agonize over <\/span>
what went wrong<\/span>
and what lesson I can learn <\/span>
from this particular episode<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

recently<\/span>
I have had occasion<\/span>
to have 3 people in 2 days <\/span>
tell me that I need to “lighten up”<\/span>
to not hold so dear<\/span>
the basic tenets of my beliefs<\/span>
to allow for things to happen<\/span>
without repercussion<\/span>
or consternation<\/span>
both to me<\/span><\/span>
and about me<\/span><\/p>\n

I can’t see myself doing so<\/span><\/p>\n

better yet<\/span>
I don’t want to<\/span><\/p>\n

and if this means that <\/span>
it’s time for me to move on<\/span>
then so be it<\/span><\/p>\n

I chose to remain<\/span>
true to what I believe<\/span><\/span>
and those who are unable to understand<\/span>
will probably not even realize<\/span>
when I am gone.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am but a work in progress<\/span>
in my life<\/span>
I have experienced <\/span>
hunger<\/span>
pain<\/span>
loss<\/span>
addiction<\/span>
anger<\/span>
violence<\/span>
victimization<\/span><\/span>
and sadness<\/span>
and I may well again….<\/span><\/p>\n

but I have also experienced<\/span>
joy<\/span>
bliss
pride
amusement
<\/span>peace<\/span>
enlightenment<\/span>
fun <\/span>
and love<\/span><\/p>\n

and I will continue on this path<\/span>
this path<\/span>
that is right<\/span>
for me<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

so mote it be.
