I’ve had this conversation before<\/span>
hence my comments on this<\/span>
“<\/span>Deadline Dames<\/a>” post<\/span>
and it started again on FB today<\/span>
and wanted to share more here<\/span><\/p>\n

ya know how there are things<\/span>
in one’s life<\/span>
that immediately transport you<\/span>
back to certain times and places in your life?<\/span><\/p>\n

for me music is always the catalyst for the visuals<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember the year I turned 12<\/span>
my family traveled to Toronto <\/span>
from the wee town in NWOn
<\/span>we were stationed in <\/span>at the time…<\/span>
the fellow that owned the the car <\/span>
owned one 8 track tape<\/span>
Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass – “A Taste of Honey”<\/a>
and when I hear it now<\/span>
I’m 12 and sitting between my father and the driver<\/span>
neither of whom were small people<\/span><\/p>\n

or the summer holidays <\/span>
with the old original portable cassette player<\/span>
sitting on the dashboard
of the VW Van my father drove<\/span>
and my brother and sister
and mother and I <\/span>
singing at the top of our lungs to<\/span>
Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water”<\/a>
or<\/span>
The Band’s “Stage Fright”<\/a>
that we’d recorded
from the speakers using <\/span>
the portable microphone
that came with the cassette player…<\/span><\/p>\n

I can remember with complete clarity<\/span>
what was on the radio the day of the car accident<\/span>
that changed my life (and my face) forever….<\/span>
David Essex singing “Rock On”<\/a>
I’d just moved back to Thunder Bay from Montreal<\/span>
and Rock On had been number one all summer<\/p>\n

I remember what music was playing
the day the police came into the bar
to tell me that Michael had been killed…
Van Halen’s “Jamie’s Crying”<\/a>
<\/span>
or the day I signed the papers<\/span>
to give my daughter up for adoption<\/span>
Eric Carmen singing “All By Myself”<\/a><\/p>\n

or the day that man stabbed me in the airport<\/span>
Alice Cooper singing “I Never Cry”<\/a><\/p>\n

or the weeks leading to my maternal grandmother’s death<\/span>
Enya’s whole “WaterMark” album<\/a><\/p>\n

or the resultant wake held in a pub<\/span>
up the street from her house…
where 20-30 of my cousins<\/span>
and myself sang <\/span>
Don McLean’s “American Pie”<\/a>
at the top of our lungs
in homage to her<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember the tunes
playing in the bar the night<\/span>
I met the man
that resulted in the best sex of my life<\/span>
Stan Rogers “Barrett’s Privateers”<\/span><\/a>
and the one playing the day
I met the man that resulted in the worst.<\/span>
Men at Work – “Down Under”<\/a><\/p>\n

I remember the songs playing <\/span>
the day they told me I had cancer<\/span>
Tears for Fears – “Shout”<\/a>
and the day the told me I’d have no more children<\/span>
Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is”<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

I remember the night <\/span>John Lennon died<\/span>
I was working in a bar listening to
<\/span>Matt Minglewood <\/span>singing “Can’t You See”<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

I remember the songs attributed to good friends<\/span>
Billy Idol’s “Mony Mony” for Little Lori Lost<\/a>
long time friends<\/span>
Golden Earing’s “Radar Love” for the Vezzies<\/a>
(where ever they are)<\/span>
the day I met Sweet Pink I listened to <\/span>
Matchbox 20’s “3AM”<\/a> all day long<\/span><\/p>\n

and all the songs that remind me<\/span>
of the people that are friends no more.<\/span>
(I’ll just leave that one lay for now.)<\/span><\/p>\n

there’s many many more<\/span>
but suffice it to say…<\/span>
I remember the songs <\/span>
attached to all <\/span>
the momentous occasions<\/span>
in my life<\/span><\/p>\n
