For the first time, Robert denied that his intention was to marry me.<\/p>\n

That silly little smirk he\u2019d got on his face every time his mother had suggested it in the past was gone\u2026and now there was a mean guy in it\u2019s place.<\/p>\n

Mrs. K was shocked and as she was twittering and exclaimed about his daring to speak to her in that manner, or daring to speak about his intended with that kind of language, or about him not being too big or too ill for her to box his ears or turn him over her knee and paddle his bare ass\u2026Robert continued to rage culminating in\u2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet that fucking Canadian bitch outta my house!\u201d<\/p>\n

I just sat there, hanging my head almost unaware of the cacophony around me\u2026.all I could think about was the vial and packet in the closet\u2026.that\u2026.and how much I really wanted to go home.<\/p>\n

Rosie ushered her mother out of the room as Robert sort of wound down and eventually there was silence\u2026.just the 2 of us and silence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you want from me Robert?\u201d I asked, my eyes slipping furtively to the dark recesses of the closet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want you to get me a hit\u2026and then if I want another I want you to get me that one too\u2026and I want you to not have any\u2026I want you to keep that monkey in check\u2026cos you job is to take care of me\u2026and if you do that right\u2026I\u2019ll let you go home.\u201d he said through clenched teeth.<\/p>\n

I looked up at his face to see beads of sweat rolling down his temples\u2026and I realized that sure\u2026Robert was in pain\u2026but that he had that same monkey I did.<\/p>\n

\u201cwhat\u2026what\u2026what\u2026what if I flush it all and we both keep our monkey\u2019s in check?\u201d I suggested.<\/p>\n

Robert snorted\u2026\u201dnot possible\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI could get you some Jack to take off the edge\u201d I suggested.
\u201cJust get me my fuckin<\/span> fix bitch!\u201d Robert roared<\/p>\n

So I did\u2026I got the second glass kit out of the bathroom drawer and I did just that\u2026.<\/p>\n

Then against all my promised to Michael, and myself\u2026and even in some way to Robert\u2026.I got me one too\u2026<\/p>\n

And over time\u2026. <\/span>

There was another\u2026<\/p>\n

And another\u2026<\/p>\n

And then Gus the Greek came back\u2026<\/p>\n

And then there was more\u2026.<\/p>\n

There eventually became a darkness around that house that no one could see but Robert and I\u2026and in a way it was like coming home.<\/span>
<\/span>
By the time Robert was well enough to get outta bed on his own\u2026the house was in shambles and both of us were in very serious trouble\u2026.it seemed like weeks and months, but truly had only been a matter of days before Robert was running out of cash and we\u2019d started talking about selling things at the house.<\/p>\n

We spent our days out of it and then nights scrounging to get more\u2026and when we weren<\/span>\u2019t high we were figuring ways to get high or we spent our nights high and our days scrounging\u2026I don\u2019t really remember.<\/p>\n

I do remember hiding from Mrs. K and Rosie\u2026and I remember Robert beginning to bother me\u2026.and not in a friendly way. In no time at all I was thinking about ways to get rid of Robert so that I could have it all to myself.<\/span><\/p>\n

I was irrational.<\/p>\n

I was high.<\/p>\n

And I was out of my ever loving mind.<\/span>
