Gus turned out to be just the kind of weasely, greasy little fellows one would suspect a drug dealer would look like in those days.<\/p>\n

\u201chow clich\u00e9\u201d I thought as I led him into the bedroom to speak to Robert<\/p>\n

\u201cget lost Baby\u201d Robert suggested as I ushered Gus through the door<\/p>\n

\u201cwhat? No welcoming kiss?\u201d Gus sniggered as he made a grab for my breast when I walked past him<\/p>\n

\u201cmaybe you handn\u2019t heard Gus\u201d Robert spoke softly \u201cBaby is my Canadian girl…soon to be my wife if Mrs. K has anything to do with it\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Gus threw me a look of sympathy and I found myself angered that this little spit, this little despicable ant of a man felt anything like sympathy for me.<\/p>\n

\u201cFuck you\u201d I said succinctly as I headed for the door.<\/p>\n

Gus made a noise and a sound behind me and I turned in time to see him reaching for me but stopped in his tracks as Robert leveled his 45 at Gus\u2019s head. \u201cya might not want to upset me Gus\u2026I\u2019m a little shaky today\u201d<\/p>\n

Gus sniggered his greasy uncomfortable little laugh \u201cRobert, Robert, Robert let\u2019s not be hasty\u2026you have something I\u2019d like…and I have something you need\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGus\u2026yer right\u2026you do have something I need\u2026but I\u2019ll be fucked if yer having Baby before me\u2026\u201d I saw the beads of sweat on Robert\u2019s brow and understood just how much holding that pistol up was costing him.<\/p>\n

\u201cFine then\u2026lets talk\u201d Gus replied. <\/span>

I left the room.<\/p>\n

Not long after Gus left, I walked into the bedroom at Robert\u2019s call. \u201cBaby\u2026I need my works\u2026in the bottom drawer in the bathroom\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cget em yerself\u201d I swore\u2026<\/p>\n

Again the fist with the pistol came up\u2026\u201dI ain\u2019t arguing with you little girl\u2026get me my works or it\u2019s gonna get right fuckin ugly in here\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cwin the fight and lose the war\u201d I thought to myself as I got Robert\u2019s kit out of the drawer and stomped into the bedroom to toss them on the bed.<\/p>\n

\u201cFine\u2026yer on yer own\u201d I barked\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cNot quite\u2026.I\u2019m gonna need some help\u201d was Robert\u2019s reply<\/p>\n

I argued for a bit\u2026but in the end, Robert and his 45 were convincing\u2026<\/p>\n

I sat on the side of the bed closest to the table and opened the kit. I took out the belt and the glass syringe and laid them on the table top. I took out the spoon and I placed a hefty amount of the powder from the packet Robert handed me into the bowl of the spoon and very carefully added a couple of drops of water\u2026I picked up the syringe and checked the point for barbs and then stirred the mixture in the spoon carefully…I set down the syringe and picked up Robert\u2019s Zippo looking up to meet his eyes…<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve done this before\u201d Robert commented.<\/p>\n

\u201cyeah\u201d I sighed and felt the sweat begin\u2026my arm itched and my hands trembled just the tiniest bit\u2026<\/p>\n

This was the closest I\u2019d been to a kit or powder since Michael had died and in a moment all that sadness and desperation came flooding back to me…<\/p>\n

“what the fuck” I thought…<\/p>\n
