the sound: <\/strong><\/span>AC\/DC \u2013 Thunderstruck<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

By the time Robert got out of the hospital I\u2019d been moved from Mrs. K\u2019s house down the hill to Robert\u2019s.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d spent a bunch of time fighting the move, and trying to convince just about anyone that I talked to that I wanted to go home\u2026but all the men just smiled knowingly, and most of the women refused to look me in the eye. Those that did, did so with such a sadness that I really truly got more and more afraid all the time.<\/p>\n

The day Robert got out of the hospital there was a huge production. <\/span>
<\/span>
Robert, of course, wanted to ride\u2026his mother would have no part of it\u2026so Robert came home in the passenger seat of one of the Cadillacs. Rosie and Mrs. K rode in the back while I sat wedged between Robert and Grey. <\/span>
<\/span>
Mrs K having made the arrangements for the \u201cyoung lovebirds\u201d to sit together and Robert didn\u2019t fit in the back of the car.<\/p>\n

We arrived out at the farm and ushered Robert into the bedroom, the one with the big 4 poster bed and the bathtub the size of a pond. Robert\u2019s bedroom was the room that I\u2019d made myself at home in from the beginning and now all I could think of is finding a way to get my little bit of gear gathered and getting out….out of the bedroom, out of the house, out of the country.<\/p>\n

Mrs. K and I got Robert settled into bed and Mrs. K handed me a prescription bottle. I read the label. It was dilaudid for pain. He was to have them at scheduled intervals and Mrs. K was happy to tell me that \u201ceven should he rage at me\u2026he was not allowed more than the prescribed amount.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFat chance I\u2019ve got of stopping him\u201d I thought\u2026but for once wisely kept my trap shut.<\/p>\n

Mrs. K left advising everyone that \u201cthe fianc\u00e9\u201d was in charge of Robert\u2019s care and they should all leave the \u201clovebirds\u201d alone. She smiled, in what I\u2019m sure she believed to be a kindly manner, and left.<\/p>\n

I walked back into the bedroom to find Robert with the pill bottle in his hand, open and shaking literally a handful of dilaudid into his palm.<\/p>\n

\u201cthey ain\u2019t gonna last long if you take em all now\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

\u201cshaddup and get me Gus the Greek on the phone\u201d came the reply.<\/p>\n

I left the bedroom and went into the kitchen to find Rosie and find out how to reach one \u201cGus the Greek\u201d.<\/p>\n

Rosie\u2019s face dropped \u201cno\u2026he wouldn\u2019t\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201che wouldn\u2019t what?\u201d I asked<\/p>\n

\u201cGus is the go to guy for china white in this neck of the woods\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cheroin? He wants heroin?\u201d just making myself clear.<\/p>\n

\u201capparently\u2026that he does\u201d Rosie said as she dialed the phone and handed it to me\u2026\u201dapparently he wants to speak to Gus\u201d and she shushed me out of the kitchen towards the bedroom.<\/p>\n

Gus arrived a couple of hours later\u2026by that time there was no one to be found anywhere on the property. Just Robert in his big bed, and me, perched on the ottoman in the livingroom desperately trying to figure out how I\u2019d landed where I was…and how the hell I was gonna get out.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
