\"\"<\/a>A couple of years ago I was headed to the Port Alberni Toy Run and blew the motor in my antique trike (aka the Pickle) in Nanaimo\u2026the friend that was riding with me later told me that she\u2019d never heard anyone use the \u201cf\u201d word that many times in one sentence\u2026<\/p>\n

To say that I was less than impressed with the kid that worked at the gas station by my home because I\u2019d asked him to check the oil and he\u2019d told me that he had and that it was fine\u2026would be an understatement\u2026Bull later told me that almost the only way to blow a hole in a VW motor the way I had was to have no oil in it…but I digress…<\/p>\n

I arrived at the Toy Run in a van and it kinda cramped my style for the event\u2026(quiet, demure and subtle woman that I am\u2026.)<\/p>\n

My buddy 3Wheel (Bryan) suggested that I contact Bull as he \u201cworked on VW\u2019s in the past\u201d\u2026.I did so and Bull kinda laughed and then suggested that he could get me a used motor out of a VW dune buggy\u2026<\/p>\n

I had the Pickle dragged there from 3Wheel\u2019s place and Bull began the Pickle reparations.<\/p>\n

Working on an antique trike does have a few foibles…for instance\u2026you have to take the whole body off to get at the motor\u2026<\/p>\n

As it was winter and I\u2019m whiny about riding in the rain I wasn\u2019t in a great rush to have the Pickle back\u2026and as Bull wasn\u2019t charging me for the work I\u2019d just call every now and then and get an update from the great hulking giggler.<\/p>\n

Spring was just around the corner when Bull suggested I come up and pick up the Pickle\u2026I did so\u2026and was tickled to death to see her sitting in the driveway\u2026we talked a while\u2026Bull gave me the gears about \u201cchecking the oil regularly\u201d and she started up first try\u2026I waved goodbye made it about 3 feet down the driveway when she started to smoke!<\/p>\n

Bull came running up and pulled a bunch of wires out to get it to stop\u2026<\/p>\n

Nothing stinks worse than old burnt wires\u2026except maybe hair\u2026and I think Bull lost some that day\u2026<\/p>\n

Next visit to Bull and Jenn\u2019s house was to see my trike hanging from the roof in the garage\u2026and Bull\u2019s great hulking body crammed underneath it on his office chair\u2026.laughing, giggling and pulling wires\u2026.there may have been a little Fireball involved\u2026but that may also have been my imagination\u2026.<\/p>\n

I eventually got my trike back with new wiring too\u2026and Bull made a small presentation to me of an oil rag in a zip lock bag \u201cjust in case\u201d\u2026and he bobbed a bit as he laughed\u2026and then waved me down the road\u2026I got as far as the turn off to the highway before we realized that the screws in the new fender were rubbing on the tire and creating that burnt rubber stink again\u2026Bull pulled up in the van and whipped the fender off till I could get better bolts\u2026.<\/p>\n

That was Bull\u2026always up for a rescue, always up for a laugh, always up for helping his friends\u2026He developed an wonderful connection with Kaylee his step daughter\u2026and that in itself was enough to make me respect he man\u2026He was a good man, with a great big heart and a laugh I could pick out of a crowd\u2026he was a good friend to me and many more.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what I think\u2026Bull wouldn\u2019t want us to be sad\u2026he wouldn\u2019t want us to cry and he wouldn\u2019t want us to mourn\u2026He\u2019d want us to put on the brightest ugliest shirts we could find\u2026and to laugh about what a great fashion maven he was.<\/p>\n

That would have been Bull\u2026takin life by the horns\u2026and laughing at me for making my own face leak yet again!<\/span>
