the sound: <\/strong><\/span>Chilliwack \u2013 I Believe<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/strong><\/span>Chilliwack \u2013 Whatcha Gonna Do?<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/strong><\/span>Chilliwack \u2013 My Girl<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/strong><\/span>Chilliwack \u2013 There\u2019s Something I like About That<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/strong><\/span>Chilliwack \u2013 Crazy Talk<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/strong><\/span>Chlliwack \u2013 Fly at Night<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Tea poured, sandwiches on plates, the only sounds to be heard were those of people gently stirring lemon and sugar into their tea cups.<\/p>\n

I surreptitiously searched the table for cream and finally gave up without the nerve to ask, stirring lemon and sugar into my tea as well.<\/p>\n

I shook my head slightly amused by the fact that I\u2019ve always been a weak tea drinker, \u201cfirst pour\u201d my father\u2019d say. This stuff looked like 40 weight oil and could likely have stood one of those silver teaspoons up in it and here\u2019s me with no cream.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Kirkpatrick cleared her throat. \u201cWell then Miss Karen\u2026maybe you\u2019ll be about explaining to me where my Buadhach is, and what exactly Roibhil\u00edn has done to afford himself such pretty new bracelets?\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m caught again\u2026deer in the headlights, tea cup half way to my mouth, lips pursed to slurp \u201cFuck!\u201d I think as Robert starts \u201cnow\u2026..now Mama\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSilence!\u201d she barks. \u201cI\u2019m after asking this young woman!\u201d as one, everyone at the table turns to look at me and I can\u2019t help but think again \u201cplant a potato, get a potato\u201d\u2026. they all 3 of them carry their mother\u2019s visage.<\/p>\n

I blink once or twice and put my cup down, thankfully in the saucer.<\/p>\n

I clear my throat as I look to the eyes of the 3 people I\u2019ve spent the last few days with. \u201cWell uhmmm, you see Mrs. Kirkpatrick\u2026it\u2019s like this\u201d I begin and fade off.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes child?\u201d she prods.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell there was this accident see, and Barry he kinda got hurt but it\u2019s okcosRosiealmosthadhimfixedandGreyandRobert
tookhimtothehospitalandtheyoperatedbuthe\u2019soknow!\u2026.\u201d
I pause for a breath and realize that Rosie, Grey and Robert look stricken.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn accident?\u201d she says stressing the word and then nods briskly. \u201cand the bracelets?\u201d she asks.<\/p>\n

Now I\u2019m scared and going for broke\u2026I don\u2019t have a flaming idea which direction to go in but think the truth is too over the top even for me\u2026and I saw it with my own eyes so\u2026.<\/p>\n

\u201cuhmmm\u2026it er that\u2026uhhhh it was kinda funny sorta\u201d I begin hesitantly and look up in time to see Robert give the slightest shake of his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cyes?\u201d she asks again<\/p>\n

\u201cwell I wanted to see how they worked and then I lost the key and then we had no choice but to cut them apart!\u201d I race in one breath. \u201creally it\u2019s all very silly\u201d I finish.<\/p>\n

Robert, Rosie and Grey sigh in unison.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell,\u201d she says and then stops to sip her tea. \u201ca fine story that is. Now\u2026.who\u2019s going to be after telling me the truth?<\/p>\n

Do.Not.Make.Me.Ask.This.Question.Again!\u201d she forces out with such quiet vehemence that I\u2019m sure the finish is blistering off of the table and possibly even the chair I am sitting on.<\/p>\n

The four of us sit with our heads hung.<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t imagine what exactly can get any worse when I hear the screen door at the front of the house slam. All four of us jump at the noise, Mrs. Kirkpatrick sits unsurprised.<\/p>\n

In unison we turn to face the kitchen to hallway door as into the kitchen steps a police officer, tall, muscular, red headed and unmistakably another of the Kirkpatrick brood.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, Constable\u201d Mrs. Kirkpatrick announces with a smile on her face, \u201cwill you be joining us for our tea?\u201d<\/p>\n
