Here once again <\/span>
I am overcome <\/span>
by the devastation <\/span>
brought about by <\/span>
Katrina <\/span>
<\/span>
it’s been a tough week <\/span>
I had to hit the ground running <\/span>
to make up for <\/span>
the time I lost <\/span>
when Eric died <\/span>
<\/span>
in order to <\/span>
make my numbers for a week <\/span>
I’ve been <\/span>
living <\/span>
breathing <\/span>
eating <\/span>
and sleeping <\/span>
my job <\/span>
<\/span>
tonight <\/span>
I finally sat down <\/span>
and watched <\/span>
and <\/span>
I am overcome <\/span>
<\/span>
I hear the news commentator saying <\/span>
that people didn’t leave <\/span>
because they were so poor <\/span>
that they had no way to get out<\/span>
<\/span>
that all they owned in their lifetimes <\/span>
were the houses <\/span>
they likely died in <\/span>
<\/span>
there is no food <\/span>
there is no safe water <\/span>
and the city of New Orleans is no more <\/span>
<\/span>
there will be no more <\/span>
“riding on the city of New Orleans” <\/span>
<\/span>
how do people <\/span>
live through such horror <\/span>
and remain sane? <\/span>
<\/span>
how do people <\/span>
suffer such loss <\/span>
and remain sane? <\/span>
<\/span>
how do people do it? <\/span>
<\/span>
The looting has started <\/span>
and gangs of thugs <\/span>
have armed themselves <\/span>
and are fighting the police <\/span>
to take over <\/span>
<\/span>
there are no roads <\/span>
and even if there were <\/span>
there’s no place to store <\/span>
all the supplies brought <\/span>
to the Red Cross <\/span>
on behalf of the survivors <\/span>
<\/span>
I fear <\/span>
that homeland disasters <\/span>
such as this <\/span>
will make or break humanity <\/span>
<\/span>
will it be survival of the fittest? <\/span>
or can mankind come together? <\/span>
<\/span>
fear does awful things to people <\/span>
and I’m truly frightened to find out <\/span>
what we will become <\/span>
<\/span>
all this while <\/span>
I am watching footage <\/span>
and just when I think <\/span>
that this time <\/span>
my heart will truly break <\/span>
<\/span>
I see there flying in the wind <\/span>
in the midst of miles and mile and miles <\/span>
of devastation… <\/span>
<\/span>
