the thing about birthdays <\/span>
is that others <\/span>
quite often <\/span>
make more of it <\/span>
than you do <\/span>

this weekend <\/span>
my bro and father came down island<\/span>
and <\/span>
yesterday we… <\/span>
along with the mother <\/span>
went to dinner <\/span>
at the cousin’s house <\/span>
<\/span>
it’s all good… <\/span>
except <\/span>
that they had the house <\/span>
decorated for a “birthday party” <\/span>
<\/span>
how the hell <\/span>
did I get to be 50 years old <\/span>
and my family not know <\/span>
that while I love receiving presents <\/span>
I loath the opening “surprise” brouhaha? <\/span>
<\/span>
and for the life of me <\/span>
I can’t figure out why <\/span>
any of them would think <\/span>
that the way to commemorate <\/span>
one’s meeting a half a fucking century <\/span>
would be to receive <\/span>
a god damn dish rack? <\/span>
<\/span>
but I digress….. <\/span>
<\/span>
I don’t like surprise parties <\/span>
at the best of times <\/span>
they give me the same kind of anxiety <\/span>
that practical jokes do <\/span>
and we all know <\/span>
that I am missing <\/span>
the practical joke gene…*jean*?? <\/span>
how Freudian is that? <\/span>
<\/span>
but here’s the kicker… <\/span>
all week long <\/span>
I have been waiting <\/span>
for Sunday to arrive <\/span>
<\/span>
the Pickle is fixed <\/span>
and I’m gonna spend the day <\/span>
riding and recharging <\/span>
I am soooooo looking forward to it :-} <\/span>
<\/span>
so don’t the mother <\/span>
and the father <\/span>
and the brother <\/span>
and the cousins <\/span>
spend the evening <\/span>
drinking themselves <\/span>
into psychotic <\/span>
monosyllabic <\/span>
fools <\/span>
at competition levels? <\/span>
<\/span>
and it was 2 in the fucking morning <\/span>
before I got them all rounded up <\/span>
and all the way home <\/span>
and put to bed <\/span>
<\/span>
and then the old fart <\/span>
gets me up at 6:30 <\/span>
cos he ain’t feeling well <\/span>
because <\/span>
“after all…I’m 75 years old ya know?” <\/span>
<\/span>
fuck me <\/span>
<\/span>
so <\/span>
I don’t get to go for a long ride with the club <\/span>
cos I didn’t get enough sleep <\/span>
and I won’t take a chance <\/span>
when I’m like that <\/span>
<\/span>
now don’t get me wrong <\/span>
I love my family dearly <\/span>
but what would make them think <\/span>
that I’d want to <\/span>
spend my birthday celebration <\/span>
watching them get hammered? <\/span>
<\/span>
and <\/span>
<\/span>
truthfully <\/span>
<\/span>
it makes me sad <\/span><\/span>
t<\/span> o think <\/span><\/span>
that there is no one <\/span>
in the world <\/span>
that understands me <\/span>
well enough to know <\/span>
that I didn’t enjoy it <\/span>
and it wasn’t fun. <\/span>
<\/span>
happy birthday? <\/span>
me thinks not! <\/span>
<\/span>
but listen…<\/span>
everyone has left now <\/span>
and it’s Sunday <\/span>
and if I can’t spend <\/span>
the rest o the day riding <\/span>
I’ll just sit quietly in my yard <\/span>
listening to some lovely music <\/span>
and writing <\/span>
<\/span>
except <\/span>
now the white trash building manager <\/span>
has decide <\/span>
to mow the lawn <\/span>
around the building <\/span>
<\/span>
I swear it’s like some kinda fuckin plot! <\/span>
<\/span>
however <\/span>
I hear <\/span>
that once August rolls around <\/span>
all this hinkey stuff <\/span>
will end <\/span>
because the cosmos will align <\/span>
and <\/span>
we’ll all live happily ever after… <\/span>
