At the bottom of the stairs we were greeted by Rosie. I\u2019d not even known that she was in the area, let alone in the building.<\/p>\n

She too was carrying a rifle.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been dropped into a grade B wild Wild West movie\u201d I mussed.<\/p>\n

Rosie and her mother exchanged hugs and when she turned to me I asked her once again if she\u2019d tell me what was going on\u2026and for some strange reason this time she decided that she would\u2026.I don\u2019t know what the difference was\u2026maybe it was the fact that we were all standing there holding guns.<\/p>\n

Rosie sighed and then replied tersely, \u201cRobert owes some money\u2026a rather large amount of money and not to Grey this time. Once again he made a deal to pay someone off, but because he was in jail he missed the drop date. They\u2019ve come to collect.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust how large a sum are we talking about?\u201d I asked and Rosie told me that it was more than 50 large.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat will they do?\u201d I asked<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not exactly sure\u201d was her reply, \u201clast time they shot all the windows outta the house and blew up Mama\u2019s Cadillac in the driveway\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLast time?\u201d I asked with incredulity\u2026\u201dthis happens kinda regular like does it?\u201d at which point I began to look around the shelter and discovered it was actually somewhat like a cement bunker and that it was rather obviously used for storage\u2026.that or that in fact this did happen quite regular like.<\/p>\n

The shelter was well stocked. There were boxes of dry good foodstuffs, barrels of liquid and cases of liquor down there. There were camp cots, and a folding chair and tables. A person could likely survive a long time if need be.<\/p>\n

I stood there looking about and spotted the 4 serving women and the butler up against the far wall. All 5 of them were also holding guns.<\/p>\n

I also wasn\u2019t at all amused to see box after box of shells.<\/p>\n

Surprisingly enough, I wasn\u2019t as afraid as I should have been. I felt rather like I wasn\u2019t really myself and I was beginning to understand how Alice felt after falling through the looking glass.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobert means well\u2026\u201d Rosie began but she was over run by Mrs. K\u2019s announcing that \u201call her boys were strong, each in different areas, Roibhil\u00edn\u2019s area of expertise is the creation of conflict\u2026just like his fadder.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou may have mentioned\u201d I began only to be stilled by a large boom\u2026the concussion caused the house to shudder and I dropped the shotgun to put my arms over my head as dust filtered down from the ceiling of the shelter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bastards have blown up the garage\u201d Rosie yelled and started up the stairs. I grabbed at her but it was her mother\u2019s whip crack voice that stopped her in her tracks \u201cSiobh\u00e1n! You\u2019ll nae be goin oot dere!\u201d<\/p>\n

Rosie turned and came down the stairs \u2013 looking rather disgusted. We all settled down amongst the boxes and barrels to wait what may come.<\/p>\n

In the end the damage to the garage and Cadillac was extensive. The damage to the house minimal as the garage was separate. We waited for what seemed like hours for a sign is was safe to return to the main part of the house and didn\u2019t do so until Barry came hobbling in on crutches to get us.<\/p>\n

We found out later that it was actually Barry that had appeased the \u201ccollector\u201d by giving them Robert\u2019s motorcycle.<\/p>\n

\u201cBetcha that goes over well with the big guy\u201d I thought as I listened to him explain his actions to his mother.<\/p>\n

Mrs. K just patted him on the arm and put her shotgun back into it\u2019s slot in the gun cupboard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
