I stood watching the ladies \u201ccap\u201d for a while, waiting for my toast. Eventually the process got boring to watch and I glanced up at the kitchen window. I wasn\u2019t surprised to see it covered\u2026but I was surprised to see that the cover was actually gun metal grey shutters made of actual metal that looked suspiciously \u2018armed forces\u2019ish.<\/p>\n

When the toast popped I turned to the counter as Rosie walked into the room.
\n\u201chey little girl\u2026bout time you got outta bed\u2026.how\u2019s the head\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cjust ducky\u201d I muttered \u201cwhat time o day are we?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cbout 9PM\u201d came the reply\u2026I\u2019d slept through the remainder of the day and well into the evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cwell then\u2026my clock\u2019s buggered\u201d I muttered<\/p>\n

Rosie smirked and suggested I meet her by the fire when I\u2019d finished my coffee. I stood there and watched her as all expression seemed to leach from her face and then she left the room. I was left wondering how she could be part of such a great \u2018family\u2019 and completely ignored the women sitting at the table?<\/p>\n

I glanced over as I ate my toast to find the women that had formerly been so relaxed and happy to seem completely closed and very studious as they continued to cap at a rate I\u2019d not seen previously.<\/p>\n

\u201ccuriouser and curiouser\u201d I thought.<\/p>\n

I finished my toast and coffee and headed to the door. On the way I discovered my jean jacket over the back of one of the couches so I stopped and grabbed at it looking for my smokes and lighter. I lit up as I stepped out the door to find that there was another huge bonfire and it seemed that there were twice as many people there as there\u2019d been the night before.<\/p>\n

As I approached the fire I saw what looked to be a rack on top of the fire and I could smell the unmistakable aroma of meat cooking. My stomach roiled.<\/p>\n

Upon closer examination I realized that the rack was indeed an old double bed spring and that there was a rather large amount of meat or carcasses on the rack\u2026actually what looked like dog carcasses.<\/p>\n

I swung away from the fire my gorge rising up into my mouth and met face to face with a man I\u2019d never seen before.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi, you must be baby\u201d he said just as I started to puke and he laughed and danced out of my way. \u201cnever been to a goat roast before?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cgoat? goat?\u201d I thought, thoroughly embarrassed at the mess I\u2019d made. \u201cwhy the hell would anyone roast a fucking goat?\u201d I asked as I kicked dirt over the mess my breakfast had made on the ground and wiped my mouth<\/p>\n

\u201cwell ya know that ragtop Cadillac that Robert had just finished having restored?\u201d he grinned. \u201cthe one we put the new cloth on yesterday?\u201d<\/p>\n

I nodded vaguely remembering.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell Robert got up this morning to discover that several of Rosie\u2019s pigmies had walked across while everyone was away a couple of the larger one\u2019s fell through completely destroying the new ragtop\u201d\u2026he chuckled \u201cso out came the chainsaw and it\u2019s goat for supper\u2026.I\u2019m Jamesie\u201d he finished.<\/p>\n

\u201chi, I think\u2026.chainsaw?….oh gawd….I think I\u2019m gonna be sick again\u201d<\/p>\n

Jamesie laughed and said \u201cya can\u2019t piss like a puppy if yer gonna run with the hounds little girl\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cwhat the fuck is that supposed to mean?\u201d I asked as I staggered to the big tree to lean on while I decided if the rest of my breakfast was gonna stay down.<\/p>\n

Jamesie just smiled and shook his head, then turned and walked away towards the fire, the strains of Bob Seger wailing in the background.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
