I sat back in my chair and raised the beer to my mouth. Taking a large gulp as it occurred to me that quite possibly there was more to the story than I could see.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo how did you all become family?\u201d I ask, taking several more large gulps of beer.<\/p>\n

Rosie leans forward and lights a smoke, her eyes grow steely. \u201cI was put out to flatback by my father once I reached puberty.\u201d She replied. \u201cI was so young I didn\u2019t even know it was wrong\u201d she continued. \u201cI really truly thought that all women\u2019s work included lying down for strangers for money and I couldn\u2019t figure out why some people had to go to school while I got to sleep all day.\u201d<\/p>\n

She turned to look at me and I realized that my mouth was hanging open when her face flared in anger<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t get to judge me\u2026I\u2019m just telling you the way it was!\u201d she barked.<\/p>\n

\u201csor\u2026sorry\u2026.I didn\u2019t mean to offend you\u2026I guess I\u2019m just reacting cos I thought I had it bad\u201d I replied<\/p>\n

\u201coh ya Baby, yer life musta been soooo very hard living in a house with yer brother and sister and both parents\u2026poor little girl cos her daddy\u2019s a cop!\u201d Rose sing songed.<\/p>\n

\u201chow\u2019d you know that?\u201d I startled.<\/p>\n

\u201coh\u2026from Robert he knows all that he needs to know and more!\u201d<\/p>\n

I turned to look at WonderWoman who was turned away from me and looking out over the floor below us. I realized she was watching the rest of \u2018us\u2019 down on the lower level and Boomer coming up the stairs towards us. \u201cYou don\u2019t get to know my past little girl\u2026do you have any idea what we\u2019ve been through to get here?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201chush now\u201d Rosie turned to face her\u2026\u201dshe doesn\u2019t know and won\u2019t till Robert wants her to!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cknow what?\u201d I asked<\/p>\n

\u201cwhy yer here\u201d WonderWoman replies\u2026\u201dnow shut up, here comes Boomer.\u201d<\/p>\n

I looked up as Boomer walked across the floor towards us\u2026\u201dhey Baby girl\u2026come play some pinball with me\u2026let me whoop yer ass at PacMan!\u201d<\/p>\n

Grateful for the distraction, even if it involved getting close to Boomer and his fetid breath, I got up and followed him around the walk way of doors towards the particular pinball game he was looking for.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoomer?\u201d I asked<\/p>\n

\u201cHmmm?\u201d was the reply as he turned and looked back at me<\/p>\n

\u201cwhat the fuck have you got me into? Who are these people? And what\u2019s with all the doors? Where do they lead?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know why you think there\u2019s something up Baby\u2026this is yer birthday present girl\u2026just enjoy it\u201d he laughed as he turned back towards his destination.<\/p>\n

\u201coh\u201d I snarked \u201cso you don\u2019t think it\u2019s odd that I\u2019m being held virtually captive by a gang of misfits and thugs and that nobody, not one fucking person, not even you who is supposed to be my god damn friend will tell me what\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBaby..you ask too many questions\u201d Boomer replied as we reached the 2nd floor bar, \u201cyou need to get back to goin with the flow\u201d He stopped and ordered 4 shots of tequila, 2 with lime and 2 poppers. \u201cOne each\u201d he said, as he nodded towards the drinks on the bar\u201d \u201cit\u2019s Happy birthday to you and outta a jam for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cwhat\u2019s that supposed to mean? I asked again as I reached for the shots.<\/p>\n

\u201cdue time, due time Baby\u2026..just drink up\u201d came the reply yet again.<\/p>\n
