\u201cGoin somewhere?\u201d Robert says to my back.<\/p>\n

\u201cUhmmm just to get my jacket\u201d. I pride myself on my quick thinking. Robert makes some kind of non committal noise in his throat as I race back into the bedroom, grab my jacket off the foot of the bed and run back to the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like to be kept waiting\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike he\u2019s the grand pooh bah\u201d, I think, and then think \u201cOh my gawd, he is!\u201d and again I am overcome with wonder at the abject stupidity of this not so tenable situation. \u201cThe things I agree to when I\u2019m hung over\u2026\u201d I think.<\/p>\n

I follow Robert out the door cos even at only 126 lbs there is no way that I am going to fit past him in this hallway.<\/p>\n

I step out the door and the sites and sounds of an outdoor party assail me. It\u2019s well past dark and there are stars in the sky. There are strings of light bulbs like they use at Christmas only with larger and all white bulbs strung from tree to tree\u2026so the area I\u2019m in is brightly lit while just past the light line there is true dark like you can only find in the country.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a large bonfire in the cleared area by the garage and there\u2019s probably 50 people sitting around it at picnic tables and on chairs or on the ground. There\u2019s a pile of firewood easily the size of a small truck on the ground between the house and the fire and there\u2019s even a couple of drunks dancing around like they are doing a war dance. There\u2019s more people near the camps and I see another smaller fire over there as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeezuz\u2026I wonder what time it is?…er better yet..what day it is? Just how long did I sleep?\u201d<\/p>\n

As Robert and I approach the garage BarnYard walks up proffering a rather large glass of beer and when I look at Robert he nods. I sigh, \u201cone of many methinks\u201d and take the glass and drink till its empty. \u201chmmmmm not too bad for beer\u2026 really a gin drinker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Old Rosie sidles over and asks if I am hungry, \u201cthere\u2019s pig n buns\u201d she says as I watch Robert, out of the corner of my eye, settle in a very large but very obviously home made Adirondack chair. And then watch in puzzlement as people from around the fire seem to gravitate to this huge man.<\/p>\n

Rosie pulls me towards the garage to get me something to eat and I can\u2019t help but ask \u201cRosie?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201chmmmm?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cuhmmmm Rosie?…can I ask you some questions?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cyou can ask away little girl, but I ain\u2019t sayin I\u2019ll answer em all\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cfair enough\u2026first and foremost\u2026where the fuck am I? I\u2019m not in Minneapolis or Saint Paul am I? what is this place? Who are these people? How long will I be here? How long have they been here? How long have you been here? Is it safe? Am I in trouble?\u201d all tumble out of my mouth almost in one breath.<\/p>\n

When I finally stop to breath Rosie says \u201cwhoa\u2026that\u2019s a lot of questions!…ok\u2026first off\u2026you are in Elko, outside of the twins and you are safe\u2026as long as yer good\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cwhat the hell does that mean? Good? I can\u2019t be good\u2026I don\u2019t know how!\u201d I panic.<\/p>\n

\u201cJezuz Baby\u2026breathe\u201d she replies and smiles again as Boomer wanders towards us. \u201cBoomer, I was just telling Baby how you got hit by lightning!\u201d<\/p>\n
