sometimes being at the farm
is a treat
and sometimes
not so much
there’s 2 houses at the farm
the big one is home to the landlords
he’s in his 80’s I think
and farmed all his life
she’s in her late 60’s
and is animal mad…
the other smaller house
is where my dad lives
so they are close enough to holler
at each other
but not close enough
to be in each other’s face
because the landlord is elderly
and in poor health
it’s become more of a hobby farm
than anything else
and I often think
the chores he does
are what keep him on his feet
the farm is far enough away from the highway
to keep you from hearing traffic all the time
and yet close enough to town
that you can be there in 20-25 min
the landlords used to have an old dog

kind of a plodding old
lab cross I think
he passed away a while ago
so they got a rescue
Tyra
not so much with the plodding
Tyra is part Shepherd
and part whippet I think
runs like the blazes
Tyra’s favourite past time
has been to race you
to the gates
when you open the gates to drive through
she’s always watching and zips across the yard
like a maniac to get away
She’s an escape artist…
I think they should have named her
Houdini
Up till 2 days ago
I could always tell her no
and she’d not take off when I came thru
however…
last night I was coming home from town
got to the gate
opened up
got back in my car
and started thru the gate
Tyra came racing at me
I had to swerve to keep from hitting her
I didnt’ want to hit the damn dog…
in swerving
I smacked the side of the ladybug
on the gate and scratched it
I was some kinda cheesed off
I’ll tell ya
it’s not a bad scrape
but I’ve done pretty well with this car
it’s 3 yrs old and this is the first big scrape
so now I’m going to have to find someone
to rub it out
or paint the one’s that won’t rub
stupid dog!
