continues to happen
to me

yesterday
while walking from
the building
I work in
across campus
to a building
I was attending
a meeting in

I lost an earring

not really a big deal
not expensive
not a gift
not really special
except that
I’ve had the damn things
since I was in my 20’s

and that’s more
than a while
don’t you know?

I asked a colleague
if I’d had it on
in the meeting
and she couldn’t remember

so I chalked it up
to lost items
and put the other one
in a paper clip
container
on my desk

I almost threw
it out
but providence
being what it is
I threw it in
with the clips

last night
when I decided to
go to bed
I stripped down
got into my
night dress
and wandered
around the house
turning lights off

got into bed
went to sleep
woke up at 3:45
thinking I
needed a
rest stop

but realized
it was cuz
something
was seriously poking
into my right breast

I thought it was
the dog’s nails
at first

but she was at my feet

so I sat up
turned on the light
to have a look
and low and behold
there’s the missing
earring

stamped into the
lower portion of my breast
like a staple

weird shit
continues to happen
to me.

or “the girls”
have started
collecting.

I wrote this a week ago but was unable to post as I was barely out of bed all week…

When is the last time you felt positively giddy?

I asked this question
on my fb page today

I was standing
in the shower
this morning
laughing
at myself…

I’ve been happy
over the last year
but rarely giddy

I was happy to spend
a lot of time
with my dad
over the last year
of his life

I was happy once
the celebration
of his life was over
cos it meant
I could pigeon hole
the pain/grief
and try to move on

I was happy to meet
with my tribe in Georgia
a couple weeks later

I was happy to have
a new job
in the same office
to avoid
some of the stress
of starting over

I was happy
that my mother went into
a good home
and that now she’s moved
back to my brother’s

I was happy
that Ro and Twitchy
were finally able to get married

I was happy
that Scooter and Pam
did too

but seriously
giddy
happy?

not for a long time

not until a week ago that is

I went up island
to visit
and was sick while
I was there
I came home on Remembrance Day

didn’t relish the drive
cos I’d had the pukes
for a couple of days

as often happens
intuition and I
had an argument in Chemainus
and intuition won
I’d been puking
on and off
for a couple of days
but I’ve learned over time
that intuition
is usually right….

I stopped
at the Antique Barn

I wandered through slowly
I’ve mentioned before
that I’ve been collecting
pieces of Belle Fiore china
since I moved to BC
20 years ago.

I hit pay dirt
I found this…
on the third floor

I was so excited
so absolutely giddy
that I squealed
like a child
loudly
which brought one of the
owners of the Barn
racing to me thinking
I’d possibly seen
a rodent

but no
I was holding the plates
and jumping up and down

what a find

I danced down the stairs
from the 3rd floor
while the owner carried
much of the load down for me
and I literally ran around in circles
while I waited for them to
box the pieces up for me

I paid
for 25 pieces
what I’ve paid
on occasion
for 1.

SCORE
I’m still a
little giddy
but I’ve been sick all
week
and unable to dance
or get outta bed

so today
now that I’m feeling
much better
I wanted to ask
all of you

when was the last time you felt positively giddy?
